New Yellow Warning for Storms – When it Comes into Effect

The Meteorology Department has issued a new yellow warning for isolated strong thunderstorms, valid from 11:00 am today, Friday, until 11:00 pm. The thunderstorms are expected to be particularly intense in the south and west of Cyprus, with the possibility of hail. The warning was issued due to the influence of a low-pressure system and a new disturbance approaching from the west. The weather forecast predicts increased cloud cover with local rains or thunderstorms, mainly in coastal and mountainous areas during the night. Winds will be mainly westerly to northwesterly, light to moderate, with the possibility of strengthening in the exposed areas. The sea will be slightly rough to rough. For tomorrow, Saturday, initially local increase in clouds is expected in the west and north, with the possibility of rain or thunderstorms. Gradually, the weather will become mostly cloudy, with local rains and isolated thunderstorms, especially from noon onwards. The phenomena will be intense and prolonged in the west and south coasts, with the possibility of hail and snow in the higher mountains. The warning also covers Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with a forecast for intermittent local rains and isolated thunderstorms, with the possibility of hail and snow in the mountains. Drivers and citizens are urged to be careful and take the necessary protective measures.
