Safe-R Project Concludes Training on Inclusive Healthcare

The Safe-R project, a European co-funded program, has successfully completed a series of trainings for healthcare professionals and students on inclusive care for LGBTQI+ individuals. The trainings, held in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, and Paphos, attracted significant participation, highlighting the need for ongoing education on equal and non-discriminatory healthcare. Over 150 healthcare professionals and students from various disciplines were empowered with knowledge and tools to understand issues of sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as to provide safe and respectful healthcare services. Emphasis was placed on addressing the stigma and discrimination faced by LGBTQI+ individuals in accessing healthcare. The training content was based on two key publications of the project: the “Guide to Inclusive Healthcare Services for LGBTQI+ Individuals for Healthcare Professionals” and the research report on the needs of LGBTQI+ individuals in accessing healthcare services. The trainings were organized by the AIDS Support Movement and the Cyprus Family Planning Association, in collaboration with DIAS Publishing House and Accept – LGBTQI Cyprus. The Cyprus Anti-Addiction Authority also provided support, while the Pan-Cypriot Association of Nurses and Midwives offered continuing education credits. The project is funded by the European Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) program.
