Hungary: Parliamentary Elections Set for April 12th – Orban Losing Ground in Polls

Parliamentary elections have been called in Hungary for April 12th, 2026, with Prime Minister Viktor Orban facing increasing challenges in the polls. Orban, in power since 2010, is now trailing Peter Magyar and his Tisza political movement, which originated within the government and has become a strong critic. Polls show a consistent lead for Tisza, around 50%, compared to Orban's Fidesz, which is hovering around 35%. Orban's popularity has been affected by economic stagnation, growing dissatisfaction with public services, and scandals related to child protection. The election campaign has already begun, with Magyar touring the country and Orban making visits to key international hubs such as Washington and Moscow, while also promoting new promises to citizens. In addition to Fidesz and Tisza, the far-right 'Our Homeland' party appears to have a chance of winning seats, while other formations, such as the Democratic Coalition, are struggling to surpass the 5% threshold for entering parliament.
