Ukraine: Real or Russian hoax the 'strike at Putin's home'?

Russia has accused Ukraine of attempting to strike Vladimir Putin's residence with drones, a claim Kyiv vehemently denies. Moscow claims to have shot down 91 drones, characterizing the move as an act of “state terrorism,” while failing to provide credible evidence to support its claims. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed the accusation as “Russian lies” and suggested an attempt to undermine his diplomatic efforts with the United States, following his meeting with Donald Trump. Trump, who appears to have believed the Russian claim, stated that attacking a private residence is unacceptable. This accusation comes at a critical moment, as Trump has stated that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine is almost ready. Zelenskyy is striving to maintain US support, while Russia seeks to convince Trump of its willingness to negotiate, without abandoning its objectives. According to the Guardian, Russia has not presented any evidence of the attack. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that there is no intention to provide evidence, arguing that the very downing of the drones is proof. Furthermore, there are no reports or videos from local residents confirming the attack. The Kremlin has a history of inaccurate statements regarding the war in Ukraine, such as assurances that it does not target civilians, despite existing evidence. The accusation of the attack on Putin's residence fits into this context, as it recalls similar false allegations made during the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
