Ustel on Cyprus EU Presidency: 'Injustice' Against Turkish Cypriots Continues

The 'prime minister' of the occupied territories, Unal Ustel, stated that the assumption of the Cyprus EU Presidency constitutes a continuation of the 'injustice' against Turkish Cypriots, as the Greek Cypriot side does not take into account the will of the Turkish Cypriots and historical realities. He accused the Greek Cypriot side of not respecting the constitution and behaving as if it were the sole government on the island, while stating that the failed negotiations were due to the Greek Cypriot side's refusal to recognize the political equality of the Turkish Cypriots. Mr. Ustel referred to the Greek Cypriot side's 'no' to the Annan Plan and the 'embargoes' against Turkish Cypriots, arguing that the EU's promises to the Turkish Cypriot side have never been fulfilled. He also criticized the actions of the Republic of Cyprus to strengthen its military equipment and accused the EU of rewarding the Greek Cypriot side.
