Over 60 Works by Henri Matisse Donated to Paris's Musée d’Art Moderne

The Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris has received a significant donation of 61 works of art by Henri Matisse from his family. The works, including paintings, drawings, engravings, lithographs, and a sculpture, had remained in a private collection for years. The majority of the works depict Matisse's daughter, Marguerite, who was his muse. The donation was made by Barbara Dauphin Duthuit, the wife of the artist's grandson, Claude. The museum described the donation as “exceptional and historic,” as it significantly enriches its collection with works by one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Many of the works had already been loaned to the museum for a previous exhibition. Marguerite was particularly dear to Matisse, and their relationship has been the subject of study and exhibitions, highlighting her role not only as a model but also as an important companion in his artistic journey. The museum director described the portraits of Marguerite as “exceptionally beautiful and moving.”
