Erich von Däniken, Author Who Popularized 'Ancient Astronaut' Theories, Dies at 90

Swiss author Erich von Däniken, best known for his book “Chariots of the Gods” and his theories about extraterrestrial visits to Earth in ancient times, has died at the age of 90. His book, published in 1968, argued that an advanced alien civilization influenced human evolution and helped build ancient monuments like the pyramids. While his theories were strongly disputed by the scientific community, they achieved massive success and became ingrained in popular culture, influencing comics, films, and television series such as “Ancient Aliens.” Von Däniken was considered by many a “prophet” who connected myths, religions, and science fiction. He leaves behind more than 40 books with total sales exceeding 70 million copies.
