Counterfeit Euro Banknotes Increase in Cyprus

A 17.1% increase in counterfeit euro banknotes was recorded in Cyprus in 2025 compared to 2024. 50 and 20 euro banknotes remain the most frequently counterfeited, accounting for 80.2% of all counterfeits in Europe. At the European level, a 20% decrease in counterfeit banknotes was observed, with 50 and 20 euro banknotes still dominating. The Central Bank of Cyprus advises citizens to be cautious and check the banknotes they receive.
