Police Promotions: Concerns Raised Over Fairness and Need for Modernization

The President of the Police Corps Branch of the ISOTITA trade union, Nikos Loizidis, expressed strong concern over complaints from police officers regarding recent promotions to the rank of Sergeant. The union has received complaints from officers who were highly ranked on the ranking list but were not promoted. AKEL has also reported injustices and partisan bias in the evaluation processes. ISOTITA is calling for the modernization of promotion regulations to limit unfair practices and ensure transparency and objectivity. It is noted that the phenomenon of appeals to the courts and the cancellation of promotions after a long period of time is often observed, creating problems and uncertainty for personnel. The union emphasizes the need for immediate changes to the regulations so that meritocracy is the rule in promotions.
