President: Availability of Air Force Assets for Patient Air Transport

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, announced a new social reform that strengthens the Welfare State and upgrades the framework for supporting people with disabilities. The reform includes the establishment of a unified and comprehensive legislative framework for the social participation and independent living of people with disabilities, with benefits decoupled from income criteria for people with severe disabilities. A total of 106 million euros has been allocated for the three-year period 2026-2028 to implement the reform. President Christodoulides expressed hope that Parliament will promptly proceed with consultations and pass the relevant bill. In addition, the establishment of the Social Citizens' Alliance was announced, involving KYSOA, OSAK, and the Observatory for the Third Age, with the aim of substantial and systematic cooperation with the government. Finally, it was decided to make available the air assets of the National Guard for the air transport of patients in need of immediate medical care, as a demonstration of the government's commitment to a strong Welfare State.
