Authorities on Alert After Drone Attack in Akrotiri

Following the drone attack on the British Bases in Akrotiri, authorities in Cyprus are on alert. The Ministry of Interior is closely monitoring the situation within the framework of the “ESTIA” Plan and is coordinating with relevant services, ready to assist with available resources. Civil Defence teams have been deployed to the Akrotiri area to inform residents and assist those wishing to move to temporary shelters, such as the Limassol KED. Patrols are being conducted to provide assistance to residents if needed. Due to the volatile situation, the Ministry of Interior has issued precautionary instructions to the public. In case of need, sirens will sound and announcements will be made via radio and television, so that citizens can head to the nearest shelters. The location of shelters can be found through the “SafeCY” application or by calling the Civil Defence Operations Control Centre. If there is no nearby shelter, citizens are advised to remain in a safe place inside their home or workplace, such as underground parking or rooms with solid walls. Staying indoors is considered preferable to staying outdoors. The Civil Defence remains in constant communication and coordination with local authorities and the British Bases Administration in order to assist in the efforts to deal with the situation.
