New Tax System in Cyprus Comes into Effect

The new tax system in Cyprus came into effect on January 1, 2026, following the publication of the relevant laws in the Official Gazette. The Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) significantly contributed to shaping the amendments, aiming to support the Cypriot economy, enhance the competitiveness of businesses, and maintain the country's attractiveness to foreign investment. The most significant changes include increasing corporate tax to 15%, reducing withholding tax on dividends to 5%, abolishing the deemed distribution of dividends and the Stamp Duties Laws. Additionally, new provisions are introduced regarding the responsibility of directors and the submission of tax returns by all residents over the age of 25.
