Sudan: Health Centers Targeted in Deadly Attacks

Published February 9, 2026, 12:49

Three health centers in Sudan's Kordofan region were targeted in attacks between February 3rd and 5th, resulting in the deaths of over 30 people, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, condemned the attacks, emphasizing that Sudan's health system is under constant threat. The Kordofan region has become a major front line in the nearly three-year-long war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Furthermore, a humanitarian convoy of the World Food Programme (WFP) was attacked by a drone in North Kordofan state on Friday, resulting in one death and numerous injuries. These attacks highlight the worsening humanitarian situation in the region, where hundreds of thousands of people are on the brink of famine. The UN reports that violence in the Kordofan region has forced 88,000 residents to flee their homes between October and January. The situation is exacerbated by the acute malnutrition already affecting the population. The war in Sudan has caused a massive humanitarian crisis, with tens of thousands dead and over 11 million displaced. The ongoing violence and attacks on medical facilities and humanitarian missions endanger the lives of civilians and hinder the delivery of vital aid to those in need. The situation in Sudan is described by the United Nations as the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, requiring immediate and coordinated international action to protect civilians and provide humanitarian assistance.
