Bill to Allow Cyta to Enter Energy Sector Heads to Plenary

The amending law allowing Cyta to operate in the energy sector and related industries is expected to be submitted to the House plenary. The issue was discussed by the Finance Committee, with the participation of the leadership of Cyta, EAC and trade unions. The Legal Service found no legal obstacles, but predicted potential competition issues. The Commissioner for State Aid clarified that Cyta's involvement in the energy sector does not constitute state aid, but the plan should be checked for sustainability and accounting separation. RAEK stressed that any activity must comply with the market framework. The Ministry of Finance argued that Cyta's entry into the energy market could help meet the needs of vulnerable groups, while delays could affect the organization's viability. The Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry stated that the development of a sustainable and competitive energy market is a strategic goal. The Committee President, Christiana Erotokritou, emphasized the importance of consensus and cooperation. The President of Cyta, Maria Tsiakka, stated that the organization is profitable and has extensive mobile phone and fiber optic network coverage, while internationally telecommunications providers are also involved in energy.
