Bill to Allow Cyta Entry into Energy Market Heads to Plenary

A bill allowing Cyta to operate in the energy market is expected to be submitted to the plenary session of the Parliament. The discussion in the House Finance Committee was positive, with the Legal Service finding no legal obstacles but pointing out potential competition issues. The State Aid Commissioner emphasized that Cyta's involvement in the energy sector does not constitute state aid in itself, but requires sustainability checks and accounting separation. The Ministry of Finance argued that Cyta's entry into the energy market could help vulnerable groups and increase competition, while the Ministry of Energy stressed the importance of developing a sustainable energy market. Cyta, through its President Maria Tsiakka, stated that it is a profitable organization and that its involvement in energy is a common phenomenon internationally.
