Irene Charalambidou Submits Bills for Collaboration Between Anti-Corruption Authority and Tax Commissioner

AKEL MP Irene Charalambidou submitted two bills to the Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament, aiming to strengthen cooperation between the Independent Authority Against Corruption and the Tax Commissioner. The first proposal provides for the mandatory notification of the Tax Commissioner by the Anti-Corruption Authority in cases where findings emerge regarding the possible involvement of officials in corruption offenses, in order to conduct a tax audit. The second proposal concerns the amendment of the Income Tax Law, giving the Tax Commissioner the possibility to proceed with an audit when informed by the Anti-Corruption Authority. According to Ms. Charalambidou, these proposals aim to institutionalize the exchange of information and activate tax audits in corruption cases, regardless of the criminal proceedings.
