Energy Minister in Cairo for Talks, Framework Agreement Signing for Gas Development

The Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Michalis Damianou, is traveling to Cairo for talks and to sign a Framework Agreement for the development of natural gas discoveries in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus. The signing will take place on the sidelines of the international energy exhibition and conference EGYPES 2026, in the presence of the Presidents of Cyprus and Egypt, Nikos Christodoulides and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, respectively. The agreement concerns the development of the 'Cronos' and 'Aphrodite' fields and is a significant step for energy cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt. The Minister Damianou will also accompany President Christodoulides to a meeting with the CEO of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné. As part of EGYPES 2026, the Minister will participate in a Ministerial Roundtable Discussion on energy priorities, geopolitical realities and national security, along with Ministers from Egypt, Lebanon and a representative of the European Commission. In addition, Mr. Damianou will have separate meetings with representatives of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum, as well as with executives from BP, Arcius and ExxonMobil. The visit to Cairo marks the intensification of efforts to exploit Cyprus's energy resources and strengthen regional cooperation.
