Natural Gas at 'Final Stage' Again – New Estimates for 'Cronus'

The Republic of Cyprus and ENI are at the final stage for the investment decision regarding the 'Cronus' natural gas field in the Cypriot EEZ. ENI estimates that gas exports to Egypt could begin in late 2027 or early 2028, provided outstanding issues are resolved promptly. ENI's Chief Operating Officer, Guido Brusco, described the talks with President Christodoulides as constructive and emphasized the importance of cooperation to achieve the timeline. Mr. Brusco stated that ENI is known for its rapid project implementation, but success also depends on the Cypriot side. He highlighted that certain documents still need to be finalized before the final investment decision is made, however, a timeline for starting exports in late 2027 or early 2028 is feasible. President Christodoulides stated that Cyprus wants to complete all outstanding issues by March 30th, in anticipation of his participation in an energy forum in Egypt. He stressed the importance of the 'Cronus' project for Cyprus, Egypt, and Europe. President Christodoulides received an invitation from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to participate in an energy forum in Cairo, where the 'Cronus' project is expected to be highlighted. Mr. Sisi also invited the President of the European Commission, underlining European interest in the project. The Cypriot government wants to speed up the procedures to be ready by March 30th.
