Occupation Army Plan to Seize the Dead Zone

The occupation army is increasing its military movements and violations in the dead zone, with the aim of seizing it. This tactic includes blurring the boundaries, challenging the existing situation, tension, incidents, and gradual advance. Barrels are being placed for “demarcation” in areas of the dead zone where they have already advanced. The United Nations has expressed concern about the situation, however, the Republic of Cyprus is closely monitoring developments and taking measures to ensure the safety of its citizens. UNFICYP informs the UN Secretariat, but the reports are characterized by “equal distances” and attribute responsibility to both sides. The Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs has criticized the policy of equal distances, emphasizing that it undermines the effort to create a climate of trust and does not accurately reflect the realities of the Turkish occupation. The government is acting deterrently and trying to ensure the safety of its citizens. The situation in the dead zone is tense and requires constant vigilance and coordinated efforts to prevent further escalation and protect the rights and safety of Cypriots.
