EU member states 'green light' Commission proposal on biocides

EU member states approved the Council position on the European Commission's proposal to extend certain data protection periods concerning biocidal products. This extension is part of the European simplification agenda, aiming to reduce administrative costs for businesses. The Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, emphasized the importance of the simplification agenda for strengthening the competitiveness of European industries. The extension aims to ensure fair treatment of businesses and await the full assessment of the EU rules on biocides, which will follow between 2026-2027. The Cypriot Presidency prioritised the proposal, while negotiations with the European Parliament are expected to begin.
