Nikos Sykas Removed from DISY Election Ballot

The Political Bureau of DISY (Democratic Rally) has definitively decided to remove Limassol MP Nikos Sykas from the party's ballot for the upcoming parliamentary elections. The decision was made after a secret vote, with 75 members voting in favor of the removal and only 10 against. The initial proposal of the Executive Bureau was the same. This decision follows a complaint by Sykas's partner regarding assault, which was later withdrawn. Despite the withdrawal of the complaint, the case is under investigation and Sykas's parliamentary immunity has been lifted. Andreas Michailidis will take Nikos Sykas's place on the ballot. The process of lifting Sykas's immunity was characterized by the Supreme Court as proof that “everyone is equal before the law.” An investigation into Nikos Sykas regarding the assault case is expected to follow, while DISY's Political Bureau seeks to send a message of zero tolerance for violence and the violation of laws.
