President Christodoulides emphasized the importance of diplomacy and adherence to European Union procedures regarding developments surrounding Greenland, responding to questions during the inauguration of two water reservoirs in Nicosia. He highlighted that Cyprus, as the EU presidency, will follow an institutional approach, prioritizing respect for the European sovereignty of member states. No decision has been made yet on the Greenland issue, but a meeting with the Council of Permanent Representatives has already taken place, and an extraordinary European Council will be convened to discuss the matter. The President revealed that he had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Denmark regarding discussions with the United States and potential implications for NATO. All related issues will be presented at the European Council, where final decisions will be made. Furthermore, the President refuted reports concerning an entry fee for the Peace Council, stressing that no such requirement exists for participating countries. Finally, regarding the Cyprus issue, President Christodoulides stated that he does not wish to prejudge the outcome of the upcoming visit by the UN Secretary-General's special envoy, Ms. Olgin, and reiterated the goal of convening an informal conference to resume substantial negotiations from where they left off in Crans Montana.
