Forest Department: Controlled Burn in Machairas Forest a Success (video-images)

The Forest Department announced the successful implementation of a controlled burn on the fringes of the Machairas Forest, in the 'Maratheftis' area, for the second consecutive year. The action was carried out within the framework of the SEMEDFIRE project, co-financed by the 'Horizon Europe' program, and aims to provide training and implement fire prevention protocols. The controlled burn concerns selected zones on the outskirts of the forest, which are characterized by an increased risk of fire. The goal is to prevent the spread of potential fires and protect the forest, property, and human lives. The Forest Department emphasizes that controlled burns are planned and fully controlled interventions, implemented with strict safety measures and continuous supervision. This practice is an internationally recognized prevention measure, as it reduces accumulated fuel and limits the risk of fire spread. The action is part of the Forest Department's overall strategy for the prevention and management of forest fires, with an emphasis on fuel management in critical zones. The Forest Department is committed to continuing the implementation of the method in all forest districts until the end of April.
