Police Spokesman Comments on Controversial Video: “We are still unable to state what exactly we are investigating and what offenses”

The Police are investigating a video that surfaced featuring conversations between former Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis, Presidential Office Director Charalambos Charalambous, and Cyfield Director Giorgos Chrysosohou, with individuals alleged to be Dutch investors. The video contains references to potential funding of up to one million euros for election purposes, as well as contributions to the First Lady's Fund. The government has described the video as an attempt at manipulation and a hybrid threat, claiming it is a montage. Police Spokesman Byron Byronos stated that the investigation is in its early stages and that they are not yet able to determine the exact subject of the investigation or potential offenses. The Police are awaiting Mr. Lakkotrypis to gather evidence for his official testimony. The Police have begun the process of obtaining the video from the internet to verify its content and authenticity. They consider it premature to comment on any possible editing or alteration of the material, referring to statements made by the Presidency. The investigation will be conducted by the Headquarters TAE in collaboration with other departments, such as the Cybercrime Subdivision and the Forensic Investigations Service. The Legal Service and the Chief of Police are informed about the case, but no file has been submitted yet.
