Turkey Arrests Over 350 in Raids Targeting Islamic State

Turkish authorities have arrested 357 individuals in 21 provinces during a large-scale police operation against the Islamic State (IS). The operation followed intelligence reports indicating potential attacks during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that Turkey will not allow anyone to destabilize the country through terrorism. The operation came after clashes between police and IS members in Yalova province, resulting in the deaths of six jihadists and three police officers. Turkey, due to its geographical location and border with Syria, is concerned about the potential infiltration of IS fighters. Turkey has intensified its operations against IS in the past year as the organization attempts to regroup. In the past, IS had carried out several terrorist attacks in Turkey, causing significant civilian casualties. The country had served as a major transit point for foreign fighters traveling to and from Syria. Despite previous successes in combating terrorism, Turkey remains vigilant against new threats from IS and other extremist organizations.
