Unpaid Traffic Fines: A Growing Problem in Cyprus

A significant issue of impunity is facing drivers with outstanding fines from traffic cameras. Since 2022, over 366,000 fines remain unpaid, with nearly one in two offenders failing to respond. The Traffic Police are requesting the creation of a list of outstanding warrants to conduct checks at roadblocks, but the relevant funding remains 'frozen' in Parliament. This delay creates a paradox, where some can gamble in casinos in the occupied territories while simultaneously owing money in Cyprus and moving freely.
