Iran Prepares for Potential Strike by US: Nuclear Facility Entrances Covered with Soil

Published February 10, 2026, 12:40

Iran appears to be preparing for a potential strike by the US or Israel, covering the entrances to tunnels at the Esfahan nuclear complex with soil, according to satellite imagery analyzed by the Institute for Science and International Security. This move is estimated to aim at protecting the facilities from air strikes or raids. Satellite images show that two of the tunnel entrances have been completely covered with soil, while the third has been reinforced with additional defensive measures. The lack of vehicle activity at the entrances strengthens the assessment that the complex has been put on alert. The Institute estimates that Iran may have transferred sensitive materials into the tunnels to protect them. Similar preparations have been observed in the past, before previous attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities. This move suggests increased concern in Tehran about the possibility of military action by the United States or Israel, or both, given the escalating tensions in the region.
