Trade Deficit Increased to €8 Billion in 2025 – Halloumi Outperforms Pharmaceuticals

The country's trade deficit reached €8 billion in 2025, an increase of €606 million compared to 2024. This increase is mainly due to a nearly €1 billion increase in imports. Total imports amounted to €13.55 billion, while exports reached €5.55 billion, representing increases of 7.7% and 7.0% respectively. In December 2025, imports decreased by 13.1% to €1.20 billion, while exports increased by 30.5% to €490.5 million. The Statistical Service reports that the transfer of economic ownership of ships significantly impacted both import and export figures for both months. Final figures for November 2025 show a 10.1% decrease in imports and a 16.1% increase in exports.
