Cyprus to Showcase Arts During 2026 EU Presidency

The Deputy Minister of Culture, Lina Kassianidou, announced that Cyprus will present a rich Cultural Program during its Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026. The program, with a total cost of €4.4 million, will involve the participation of more than 500 artists and creators. Ms. Kassianidou described the Cultural Program as one of the most emblematic and outward-looking projects of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, which will highlight the cultural heritage and contemporary creation of Cyprus. The program will focus on promoting Cypriot heritage as part of European and Mediterranean history, as well as showcasing contemporary artistic production. The Opening Ceremony of the Cypriot Presidency, entitled “MEMORY – PRESENT – META,” will take place on January 7, 2026, at the Main Stage of the Cyprus Theatre Organization and will combine music, dance, theatre, image, poetry, and digital techniques. The Deputy Ministry of Culture aims to use culture as a tool for political cohesion and as an expression of common European identity, investing in innovation, green transition, and cultural diplomacy.
