Cyprus Aligns with EU Call for Respecting Somalia's Unity

The Republic of Cyprus has expressed its full alignment with the European Union's call for respect for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Cyprus underscores its position that Somaliland remains an integral part of Somalia. Cyprus reiterates its commitment to supporting the efforts of the African Union, the EU, and wider international initiatives to strengthen state-building and peace in Somalia, including those outlined in relevant UN Security Council resolutions. This statement follows growing concerns about the situation in Somalia and the need to maintain the country's stability and territorial integrity. As a member of the EU, Cyprus demonstrates consistent support for international efforts to address the challenges facing Somalia. Finally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized Cyprus's preference for the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue, in accordance with the UN Charter. This position reflects Cyprus's broader foreign policy, which prioritizes multilateral cooperation and the peaceful settlement of international crises.
