Cyprus: 20 New Witnesses Approved in Case of German Property 'Snatched' in Occupied Territories

The Nicosia Criminal Court has approved the addition of 20 new witnesses to the case of the German real estate agent accused of advertising and exploiting Greek Cypriot land in the occupied territories. The total number of prosecution witnesses now stands at 64. The decision was made despite objections from the defense, which argued that adding new witnesses could prejudice a fair trial. However, the Court President, Nikolaos Georgiadis, ruled that the prosecution is entitled to use evidence that emerged after the referral, provided that the defense is notified in a timely manner. The trial is in its early stages, with the examination of the first witness underway, and two 'trials within a trial' have already been conducted on issues of admissibility of evidence.
