Cyprus: Significant Reforms in Asylum, Refugee and Migration Policies

The Deputy Ministry of Migration is promoting significant reforms in asylum, refugee and migration issues, with the introduction of screening and asylum procedures, the establishment of an independent national mechanism for monitoring fundamental rights, and new parameters of solidarity and responsibility-sharing at European level. These reforms are part of the implementation of the new European Pact on Migration and Asylum, as well as the expected passage of the new Refugee Law. Emphasis is placed on the need for timely institutional and operational adaptation of Cyprus to the new changes, as well as the correct implementation of the new procedures. The new Pact aims to implement stricter border controls and adopt faster procedures, while respecting human rights. At the same time, efforts are being made to rationalize, simplify and digitize legal migration procedures.
