Von der Leyen on Greenland: 'We are ready to act if necessary'

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warned against a potential escalation of tensions between Europe and the United States regarding Greenland, emphasizing that this would only encourage their adversaries. She highlighted the importance of cooperation with the U.S. in the Arctic through NATO and described proposals for additional tariffs as misguided. Von der Leyen stressed Europe's preference for dialogue but assured that the EU is ready to act decisively if necessary. Simultaneously, European Council President António Costa acknowledged geopolitical challenges but expressed optimism for a stronger and more sovereign EU, based on principles, protection, and prosperity. The EU fully supports Denmark and Greenland, as well as peace and security in the Arctic through NATO.
