Cheaper Electricity or State-Owned Enterprise Clash? Serious Objections to the CYTA Bill

There are serious objections to the bill concerning the expansion of CYTA's activities in the energy sector, as the government submitted it to parliament without consultation and without examining all parameters. SΗΔΗΚΕΚ ΠΕΟ expresses fears of a possible clash between the state-owned organizations EAC and CYTA, as well as the possibility of not providing cheaper electricity to the consumer. On the other hand, ΕΠΟΠΕΤ-ΟΗΟ ΣΕΚ supports the bill, believing it will help thousands of vulnerable consumers. The General Secretary of SΗΔΗΚΕΚ ΠΕΟ points out the lack of a strategic plan by the government for energy and the need for robust and well-studied moves. He emphasizes that CYTA should expand, but not at the expense of EAC, and that a political decision is needed for the cooperation of the two organizations for the benefit of the citizen. The honorary president of ΕΠΟΠΕΤ-ΟΗΟ ΣΕΚ argues that the expansion of CYTA is the only way forward for the organization to progress and that it will not create problems for EAC. He criticizes EAC's argument that the loss of customers will lead to increased costs for the remaining ones, considering it unacceptable. The bill has caused reactions and discussions about the future of the energy sector in Cyprus and the role of state-owned enterprises.
