Hybrid Cars Dominate Cypriot Vehicle Registrations in 2025

According to data from the Statistical Service of Cyprus, vehicle registrations increased in 2025 to 52,508, a 5.8% rise compared to 2024. A significant shift in market share was observed across different fuel types. Hybrid cars saw a strong increase, reaching 44.3% from 37.1% the previous year, while electric vehicles rose to 4.7% from 4.0%. Conversely, the share of petrol and diesel cars decreased. Petrol cars fell to 42.0% from 48.6%, and diesel cars declined to 8.9% from 10.3%. The increase also extends to buses (181 registrations) and trucks (6,208 registrations), with a notable rise in rental vehicles. A significant decrease was observed in the registration of mopeds under 50cc (213 from 690), while motorcycles over 50cc increased by 14.5% (4,467 from 3,903). Japan remains the primary country of origin for vehicles (44.1%), followed by Germany (13.0%), France (7.0%), the United Kingdom (6.0%), and South Korea (3.9%). White remains the most popular color (34.4%), followed by grey (19.5%), black (15.6%), blue (8.8%), and silver (8.7%). In December 2025, total vehicle registrations increased by 27.1% compared to December 2024, reaching 3,604, with passenger car registrations up by 36.6%.
