Police Officers Protest Outside Parliament Over Work Hours and Organized Crime

Police officers from the ISOTITA union protested outside the Parliament building, expressing their opposition to recent changes in work schedules announced by the Chief of Police. Simultaneously, they voiced strong concerns about the increase in crime and the government's inability to tackle organized crime. The president of ISOTITA, Nikos Loizidis, accused the government of attempting to divert attention from serious criminal incidents, while emphasizing the need to strengthen security and protect citizens. Mr. Loizidis called on the President of the Republic to convene a meeting with party leaders to discuss measures against crime. He argued that there are serious cases of organized crime that have not been made public, demonstrating the weakness of the authorities. He also denounced the lack of specialized units to deal with specific crimes, such as extortion. The president of ISOTITA stated that the government is "losing 5-0 to the underworld" and that the police must protect society and not be used for "empty words". He pointed out that citizens, entrepreneurs, and political figures are receiving threats, highlighting the need for immediate action. Mr. Loizidis warned that if decisive measures are not taken in the Parliament's Legal Committee, ISOTITA will resort to legal action. He reiterated the need for restructuring the Police, warning that the country will remain vulnerable to crime if there are no substantial changes.
