1963: Dorita Saketta Brought Cyprus to Stockholm

Dorita Saketta, a Greek artist with ties to Cyprus, impressed the audience in Stockholm in 1963 with her performance. The newspaper Arbetartidningen described her show as an “explosion” of Mediterranean warmth and passion, standing out in a northern environment. Saketta was a versatile creator, involved in music, poetry, theater, and painting, drawing inspiration from the nature of Cyprus – its mountain ranges, vineyards, and coasts. Together with journalist Lana der Parthen, they presented an artistic proposal that combined different forms of art and highlighted Cypriot identity. Cyprus was presented as a rising tourist destination, an “island of Love and Sunshine” celebrated through Saketta's lyrics.
