22,386 overnight stays of Greek Cypriots in the occupied territories

Detailed data on tourism in the occupied territories showed that from January to November 2023, 2,748,098 arrivals were recorded. The majority of tourists come from Turkey (2,041,846), while a significant number are Russian (46,258), German (36,118) and Iranian (34,177). Arrivals were also recorded from British (20,208), Turkish Cypriots residing in the United Kingdom (10,789), Pakistanis (13,056) and other nationalities. Of particular interest is the number of Greek Cypriots who visited the occupied territories, which amounted to 5,072 people with 22,386 overnight stays, as well as the number of Greek tourists, which reached 790 with 1,973 overnight stays. These figures indicate a continuous flow of visitors from the Republic of Cyprus to the occupied territories. There are 170 tourist facilities operating in the occupied territories, with the largest concentration in Kyrenia (79), followed by Trikomo (32), Famagusta (28) and Nicosia (25). The number of tourist beds in October 2023 was 27,768. These data provide a picture of tourism activity in the occupied territories and the origin of tourists, while the presence of Greek Cypriot and Greek tourists highlights the need to maintain channels of communication and approach between the two communities.
