258 Archival Documents Available for Research on Grigoris Afxentiou

A significant boost to the study of modern Cypriot history is the delivery of 258 digital archival documents to the “Grigoris Afxentiou” Study Center, originating from the collections of the Special Courts and held at the State Archives of Cyprus. The delivery took place at the Deputy Ministry of Culture and concerns primary material of particular historical importance, which is expected to contribute to research on Grigoris Afxentiou and the EOKA liberation struggle. The archives are estimated to offer a more documented approach to the circumstances of his death. The Deputy Minister of Culture emphasized the importance of utilizing the archives with scientific methodology and respect for historical truth. The availability of digital copies facilitates access to the material for researchers and scholars. The collection and study of the material were initiated and supported by lawyer Elias Stephanou, who worked pro bono. The cooperation between institutional bodies and research centers highlights the strengthening of the connection between archive management and their scientific utilization. The availability of the archives contributes to the production of reliable knowledge and the promotion of historical research. This initiative is particularly important in a period of renegotiating public history and collective memory. The delivery of the archives is a significant step towards highlighting Cyprus's historical heritage and promoting historical research. The utilization of the archival documents will contribute to a better understanding of the past and the formation of a more informed historical dialogue.
