"40 Rebels Executed in Cyprus" – What a Swedish Newspaper Wrote in 1766

A rare newspaper from 1766, the Stockholms Post-Tidningar, revealed information about a rebellion in Cyprus and the execution of 40 rebels, including their leader, Khalil Aga. This was recorded in a report from Constantinople, which also mentioned an earthquake and the reward given to the Pasha of Karamania for suppressing the rebellion. Khalil Aga's rebellion, between 1765-1766, was an intercommunal uprising caused by high taxation and social upheaval, involving Turks, Greeks, and Linobambakoi. The rebellion was quelled by the dispatch of troops from the Ottoman Empire and the execution of Khalil Aga and his followers.
