Actor Christos Politis Passes Away – His Role as Yagos in 'Lampsi' and Iconic Performances

Actor Christos Politis passed away at the age of 83, plunging the artistic world into mourning. He became widely known for his iconic role as 'Yagos Drakos' in the television series 'Lampsi', but he had a long and rich career in theatre, television, and cinema. The news of his death was announced by writer Manos Lambrakis via a Facebook post. Politis began his career at the Drama School of the National Theatre and first appeared in theatre with the Yannis Fertis and Xenia Kalogeropoulou troupe in the play 'Ten Little Niggers'. He then collaborated with important troupes such as Titika Nikiforaki's and Kostas Mousouris's, as well as the National Theatre, where he participated in ancient tragedies. He was one of the founding members of the Simple Theatre, which aimed to decentralize theatre and reach the public. At the Simple Theatre, he highlighted important works by contemporary and classical writers. He returned to ancient drama in the 80s and 90s, collaborating with Alexis Minotis. He made his film debut in 1968 and won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival in 1969. He reappeared in cinema in 2022 with the film 'Broadway'. His performance as Yagos Drakos in 'Lampsi' established him as one of the most beloved figures on Greek television.
