Affordable Housing and Coastal Communities a Priority for Cypriot EU Presidency

The Cypriot EU Presidency is focusing on affordable housing and the sustainable development of coastal communities and islands. The Minister of Interior, Constantinos Ioannou, stated that affordable housing is an issue of social justice and cohesion, while the sustainable development of coastal areas is important for the resilience and prosperity of Europe. The Cypriot Presidency seeks to promote an autonomous European Union, more independent, resilient and competitive. It emphasized that municipalities and regions are on the front line of the challenges facing Europe, such as social cohesion, the green and digital transition. Affordable housing is considered a key pillar of social cohesion and sustainable local development, while the sustainable development of islands and coastal communities is important for addressing environmental challenges and protecting the natural environment. The Cypriot Presidency expects specific actions and commitments from EU member states to achieve these goals, as well as close cooperation with local authorities and civil society.
