Agricultural Organizations Say Measures for Livestock Farmers are Heading in the Right Direction

Agricultural organizations believe that the measures announced by the government to address the problems of livestock farmers, due to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, are moving in the right direction. They characterize the measures as a "first comprehensive package" that creates positive conditions for the recovery of livestock farming. In a joint statement, PEK, EKA, Panagrotikos, Nea Agrotiki Kinisi, and Euroagrotikos state that the measures address problems at many levels and seek their rapid resolution. In particular, they emphasize that the nine announced measures aim at fully compensating those affected, supporting their income, and quickly reactivating livestock production. Furthermore, the organizations welcome the appointment of Stavros Malas as the head of the special scientific committee for the reconstruction and upgrading of the livestock sector, considering it an important step in the right direction. They express their intention to support Mr. Malas with their active participation in his work. The agricultural organizations expect that these measures will be the beginning of a comprehensive reconstruction of the livestock sector, which is particularly important for the primary sector of the economy.
