The Council of Ministers approved a significant social reform that strengthens the Welfare State and upgrades the framework for supporting people with disabilities. The reform establishes a unified and comprehensive legislative framework for the social participation and independent living of people with disabilities. A key pillar of the reform is independent living, with benefits decoupled from income criteria for people with severe disabilities. €106 million has been allocated for the three-year period 2026-2028 to implement the reform. The President of the Republic expressed hope that Parliament will proceed promptly with the passage of the relevant bill, despite the upcoming parliamentary elections. At the same time, the start of cooperation with the Social Alliance of Citizens (KYSOA, OSAK, Observatory of the Third Age) was announced for the effective implementation of the reform. In addition, it was decided to designate Accessibility Officers in each Ministry/Deputy Ministry, who will be the point of contact with the Social Alliance. This decision is an indication of the government's commitment to promoting social inclusion and equal opportunities. As part of the reform, Air Force aircraft will be available for the air transport of patients in need of immediate transplantation, and the presidential aircraft will also be available if necessary.
