AKEL Leader Sends Open Letter to President Regarding Controversial Video

Published January 11, 2026, 13:20

The General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, sent an open letter to the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, regarding the recently circulated and controversial video. In his letter, Mr. Stefanou accuses the President of a cover-up attitude rather than transparency, arguing that the case undermines the rule of law and the prestige of the Presidency. He further emphasizes that the President should have already dismissed the director of his Office, abolished the Fund of the Office, and publicized its donors. Mr. Stefanou expresses the view that the government is becoming complicit in potential offenses, even criminal ones, and that the attempt to attribute the case to a “foreign finger” is unreliable.
