AKEL Proposes Law to Restrict Photovoltaics on Agricultural Land

AKEL has submitted a bill to the House of Representatives aiming to restrict the installation of photovoltaic parks on agricultural land of high value, fertile land, and protected areas. The party criticizes the uncontrolled development of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) that sacrifices agricultural land for the benefit of private interests. The proposal allows farmers and livestock breeders to install RES for self-consumption. AKEL criticizes the way the energy transition is evolving, arguing that it does not prioritize the consumer, as despite the increase in energy production from RES, households continue to be burdened with high electricity costs. The party considers energy a social good and condemns profiteering in this sector, calling on other parties to support its proposal.
