Ammochostos EOA: Freezing Permits for Those in Debt for Water or Sewage

The Provincial Organization of Self-Government of Famagusta (EOA) is taking measures to increase productivity and strengthen revenue collection, including 'freezing' the examination of applications for building permits and licenses for those in debt to the Organization. The process will involve checking for any outstanding debts before examining each application. The President of the EOA, Yannis Karousos, emphasized that it is unacceptable for large entrepreneurs to owe money to the Organization and submit applications for the construction of buildings without settling their debts. The goal is to improve the collection of funds for water and sewage services. In addition, the EOA is promoting the publication of a list of major debtors and is in consultation with the Personal Data Protection Commissioner on this matter. At the same time, the enactment of legislation allowing the publication of debtors is being considered. The Famagusta EOA is also investing in modernization, with plans to implement artificial intelligence in various departments and services, aiming to automate processes and increase efficiency.
