Anastasia Anthousi, former Deputy Minister and DISY candidate, expressed her deep sadness regarding the allegations made to authorities against DISY MP Nikos Sykas by his partner. Ms. Anthousi stated that the party's decision to remove Mr. Sykas from the ballot is correct, given the seriousness of the allegations of violence, especially from someone involved in campaigns against domestic violence. She emphasized the importance of zero tolerance for violence, regardless of its source, and highlighted that such behavior is incompatible with the role of a legislator. Ms. Anthousi expressed hope that Mr. Sykas would voluntarily waive his parliamentary immunity to facilitate the investigation of the case, given that he denies the charges. Ms. Anthousi mentioned she is “doubly saddened” as she valued Mr. Sykas as a politician and colleague. Her disappointment stems from the fact that such behaviors come to light and undermine public trust in institutions. Finally, Ms. Anthousi underscored the need for decisiveness in dealing with such situations, in order for political parties to restore public trust and ensure the integrity of institutions.
