Approval Expected for 2 Actions, Says Greek Cypriot Head of Bi-communal Youth Committee

The Greek Cypriot co-chair of the Bi-communal Technical Committee on Youth Issues, Amalia Avraam, stated that approval is expected from both sides for two new actions planned for 2026. Additionally, an action involving all Bi-communal Technical Committees is being launched, with the support of the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin. Ms. Avraam mentioned that the Committee has already held two events since its establishment in May, with the latest dedicated to the mental health of young people. The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, appears satisfied with the Committee's work, as evidenced by his Report of Good Offices. The Committee's first meeting for 2026 will be held on January 13th, where the two proposed actions will be sent to both sides for approval. Ms. Avraam expressed hope that at least one of the actions will be implemented within the first quarter of 2026. The Committee consists of 32 members (16 Greek Cypriots and 16 Turkish Cypriots) and is characterized by a positive atmosphere and friendly relations among its members, exceeding initial expectations. Ms. Avraam emphasized the importance of cooperation and a common approach to life among the members for the Committee's successful operation.
