Argentine President: Wants to Establish Alliance Against 'Cancer of Socialism'

Argentine President Javier Milei has stated that he is working with other Latin American countries to form an alliance that “will embrace the ideas of freedom” and fight “the cancer of socialism.” “We haven’t given it a name yet, but there is a group of ten countries with which we are collaborating and with which we will continue to move forward,” the head of state said, without specifying which countries he was referring to, according to an excerpt from an interview with CNN. President Milei seeks this alliance to confront “the cancer of socialism in all its different forms, whether it is 21st-century socialism or 'woke' ideology.” In recent months, the Argentine President has made approaches to leaders of countries in Latin America such as the President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, and the elected President of Honduras, Nasri Asfura. Outside the region, he has repeatedly expressed his desire to strengthen or forge alliances with leaders such as US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
